I headed out early to Sears to get the 4Runner's battery tested. After an hour test, it failed and it was under warranty so we got a free replacement. Great news.
Jim spent a good portion of the day cutting block and stubby brick. We should have close to the amount that we need to finish!
This was big news for us - the house wrap on the insulated concrete forms is now officially gone! We've been looking at that for so long it's very happy news that it's gone. I also told Jim that we're almost to the point where we will no longer see any outside appearance of the ICFs - kind of crazy.
Jim also put up the lintels on both the garage doors to see how the anchor bolts he put in during the ICF stage matched up. The lintel on the auto bay door should work well with the anchor bolts. The other anchor bolts were just a little high. That's all amazing to me - Jim put those anchor bolts in so long ago - how we would do the lintels wasn't even a thought process at that time; he just knew he would need them and wanted them anchored.
To make the lintel work with the anchor bolts, Jim had to weld a little tab onto the lintel. It's crazy - you can't even tell these were two separate pieces - even if you look inside the drilled hole! These two lintels are now ready for painting and then installing.
Jim also worked on the stringers for the other run on the downstairs staircase. They look really good too.
At lunchtime, we also took the box truck over to the shop where Jim wants them to put new brakes on. Jim has all the parts and has done the caliper work - he just can't get enough torque with the air compressor he has right now. He hates to have anyone do any work but we've had all our state inspections at this place and they've been good to us. Jim is going to take the truck in Wednesday for them to do the work.
We did have a pretty good storm come through late afternoon - but it was here and gone pretty quickly. Still - we were glad we had made the decision to not to any brick work.
