We started the morning taking the box truck into the shop to have the front brakes replaced. Mind you, Jim had already done half of the work - bought the parts, assembled the calipers - all they had to do was take it apart and put it back together with the new parts. Jim just doesn't have the tools to do that right now.
After we dropped it off, I took Jim back to the property where he picked up his car and headed to the building inspector's office. It will have been a year tomorrow the last time he came out for an inspection - that was for the lower level concrete floor. Jim showed him pictures of the lintel and he said he didn't need to come out for that. So it was good for Jim to reacquaint himself - Jerry said he was going to stop by soon just to check things out. However, some bad news in there too. It appears that we will have to renew our building permit - which makes me so mad. To me, the inspector comes out for a certain number of inspections, no matter how long the project takes. The permits here are very expensive - about $1000! - so this is no small matter.
Back at the property, Jim noticed yesterday that the pump on the power washer appears to be broken and taking in water. It's an expensive part to just buy and Jim doesn't have time to rebuild it at this point - we use it almost every day. So Jim decided to drain the oil and put new oil in, a temporary fix to make it will last for awhile. This has been a great machine - it's over 18 years old now. But look at the color of the oil that came out - slime! Very weird.
Jim also started preparation for doing the overhang work - which required building up scaffolding.
Making sure planks are fastened down...
Then he started putting up the steel angle pieces at the back of the overhang - these fasten to both the wall and the rafter pieces. However, Jim realized that all his new angle pieces were still in the back of the box truck! He only had two pieces in the shop and got those attached.
Then Jim cut the first piece of sheathing for the overhang! This is going to look so good.
Jim painted the back side of the other garage door lintel. Then I painted more of the cement board plank pieces.
Towards the end of the day, Jim got a call that the truck was done. We had to stop, close everything up and head to the shop. They also did the safety inspection on the truck so we should be good to go now (although there is a brake adjustment that they will do quickly at some point in the next few days).
By the time Jim got back to the property, not much time left. He got more grass mowed, so that's good - it's really been growing fast!
