What an exciting day - we are SO close to having the main roof done!

Jim had to go to the cold-formed steel company this morning to pick up the steel he ordered for the fascia backing on the eaves.

After he got to the site after that, he got busy up on the roof.   He got all of the remaining shingles done near the stack and then got the top row of half shingles done.

He also put the other permanent anchor for his safety rope on this side.

There was one small shingle that needed to go on the roof after the dormer roof was finished, so...drumroll...this was the last shingle on the main roof!

Definitely calls for a two thumbs up!

Of course, then it's just on to the next challenge - ridge vent and ridge shingles!  Jim is marking lines to keep everything in the right place...

More daylight from underneath when Jim cuts the underlayment!

Nailing down the beginning of the ridge vent...

Jim learned from the front gable section that he needs to pre-drill holes so that he is able to pound a nail through all the different layers.  He has to use his hammer for this as opposed to the nail gun because he needs a longer nail.

It was pretty warm today - especially up on the roof.  So everything is hot - the shingles that Jim has to sit on, all the metal tools, and especially Jim!

But it's all worth it when you see how good it looks!

After the first batch, I pre-drilled all the holes in the ridge shingles.  That way, Jim didn't have to do that up on the roof.

On the other side of the gable!

Amazing progress for the day!  Jim just has probably 8' or so to go!

Some pictures from on top...

The ridge looks amazing!

This intersection of both sides of the gable roof came out perfectly - although this picture makes it look like there are lots of different colors of shingles!

Love the way the permanent anchors look too, tucked under the ridge shingles but easily accessible if Jim ever needs them (fingers crossed that he doesn't!).
