6.1.2016

As Jim was heading to the property this morning, he got a call from Lowe's that the appliances were going to be delivered today.  Jim has been working with a new rep there since our other rep took a different job at another Lowe's.  He called the rep who said the appliances weren't scheduled for today so Jim asked for them next week.  Then another call saying they were on the truck and were coming this afternoon.

Jim wanted to shore up the steps a bit before the delivery, so that task had to be first priority this morning.  Jim made and welded special clips to the bottom stairs to carry more of the weight.  Obviously this took awhile!

Since our other sill has never come in (another issue Jim has been dealing with), Jim made a temporary wood sill to protect the door frame.

Also this morning, Jim got the final trim board up on the dormer end.

Jim worked at home last night figuring out the exact placement and measurements of the shingles in order to make everything symmetrical.  That required lots of measuring and marking up on the roof - again, really difficult because Jim is working upside down so high up in the air.  He has safety harness ropes and air hose ropes to work around too.

Starting a new row...

Mid-afternoon, the Lowe's truck showed up.

Of course, another issue.  The original dishwasher had been damaged so our old rep refunded that purchase, and we paid for the newer model at the same price.  But the new rep didn't have all the info - Jim had to forward paperwork.  When the truck came, no dishwasher.  Another battle for another day.

They unloaded the range first...

Taking it up the stairs.  The lead guy was pretty good but the other guy wasn't real great - Jim ended up doing a lot of the work.

The refrigerator was next...

This was really tough to get up because it was so heavy and big.

Again, Jim ended up doing the lion's share of the work.

But they are both up in the apartment now!  However, when we looked at the refrigerator, we noticed a few small scratches around the door handles (which are inside).  They offered to either get us a new door or give us 15% off - we gladly took the 15% refund.  I'm so excited to have this fridge in our future - the one at the apartment is small and doesn't work the best.

The pretty range...can't wait to cook with this!

After the Lowe's truck pulled out, it was back to work on the shingles.  It's so hard working this way - Jim can't wait until he gets enough down that he can work from below like normal.  It's also hard to keep supplies from sliding down the roof.  With the other roof sections, Jim had toe boards and roof jacks - here he put a couple of toe boards about mid-roof but he has to keep all his tools and shingle supplies up there which isn't real convenient.

I can only see Jim in certain locations - so here he is starting another row...

End-of-the-day picture...Jim has the bottom few rows done all the way across the bottom plus this bigger area.

A close-up shot...
