It needed an oil change and Jim just hates to have anyone else do the work. Case in point, they tighten the bolts down way too much and ruin them and Jim could tell that they didn't use synthetic oil like they were supposed to. Some of the bolts were really rusty and Jim had a tough time getting them off. He had some replacements but will order some stainless steel ones to use.
Jim had spent some more time this morning trying to see if he could make the screws work that he has. He got some of them to work but it took a lot of fussing. He has enough screws to hold things in place for now and he'll order some new ones.
We had to bring over two more of the really heavy decking material to finish the landings. Thankfully, I was able to hold up my part in that process!
Then Jim measured the space upstairs for the next piece and cut it.
Then we had to carry it over, push it up onto the other landing, and then Jim got up and propped it up on the upper landing.
Then pushed it up onto the landing.
Putting it into place. Unfortunately, at this point Jim realized that it didn't fit right. He measured the piece to make sure it was cut right - I marked the wrong measurement! I felt horrible! Typically, I always repeat the measurement back to Jim to make sure that nothing got lost in transition (and because I always have my ear muffs on!) and then Jim measures again. This time, we did neither of those things. I measured once side and Jim measured the other and cut it. Ugh.
Then we had to get the wrong piece down from the landing! We basically reversed the steps but it wasn't easy. Jim used the piece that was cut wrong to make the last piece that we will need for this side and we can hopefully use the rest for the other landing.
Take Two on getting the piece up on the landing - good thing I have an understanding boss!
Pushing it up...
Lifting it up to get the groove to fit on the tongue section...it fit perfectly once it was cut right!
Bringing up the last piece. This looks small but these pieces are really heavy so this wasn't an easy task either.
Putting the last piece down...
The landing is all covered! Once Jim gets the right screws he will fasten everything down better, but for now this will allow us to build scaffolding on so that we can start doing roof work.
This is a really nice space - we intend to use it as a mud room/storage space which will be nice.
