2.16.2016

We had the lovely weather trifecta of snow, ice and rain today.  Of course, the rain is the worst at this point.  Hard to believe that in Upstate New York in the winter, we are dealing with rain issues.

Jim headed out to the property after lunch to assess the damage and see what he could do to control the water.  For awhile, the few inches of snow and ice that we got helped absorb the rainfall.  Eventually it started dripping into the basement.  The downstairs shop is frigid so when water fell, it froze instantly.  Jim had all the buckets in place from the last rain - they became frozen to the concrete from the dripping water.  So he had quite the mess to deal with.

As far as his water slide invention, Jim couldn't figure out why it wasn't working as planned.  The water was funneling down into the tarp like he thought it would but instead of building up and going out the door opening, it was dripping below.  He finally realized that the tarp we are using in that spot is old and worn so even though there are no holes, the plastic has disintegrated and is acting like cheesecloth.  Before the next rainfall, we'll have to address that issue.

Because the water wasn't channeling outside, it found its way through the doors from the landing and made its way into the corner...where it froze.

In between trudging up a river of frozen slush between the upstairs and downstairs shops to do water damage control, Jim worked on the bathroom wall.  He got all of the studs fastened down, a few Tap Cons in the bottom tracks to hold them in place, and even started building the door frame!  I'm so excited to see it in person - it really looks like a room!

High 45/Low 24 - snow, ice, rain!
