2.5.2016 - House Wrap Finished!

I headed out this morning to pick up more house wrap tape and run a few errands.  Jim got busy making the first two rafters for the stairwell!

Cutting the clip angles for the rafters...

Then we got to work getting the last of the house wrap up.

Taping the seams...

Yay - another big milestone - all the house wrap is on the carriage house!

Time to switch gears.  In order to think about starting the roof, we have to be able to build scaffolding on the landing.  Which means that we need to have the subfloor on.  Since we have some leftover Advantech, Jim decides to use that, even though it's certainly an overkill for the landing.  However, it's heavy!  And it's all stacked nicely in the yard - a muddy trek away from the carriage house.  We weren't sure if the two of us would be able to lift and carry it, especially because once we got it to the carriage house doors, we were going to have to turn it sideways to get by the scaffolding.  But we did it - we were able to bring in two pieces to get started.

Taking a break after the hard work!

Jim cutting the first piece to size...

...and then cutting off the groove so that it will fit flat against the wall.

In order to put the decking material down, the temporary pieces have to be unscrewed and brought down.

Then...how are we going to get this heavy stuff up on the top landing?  We carried it out and leaned it against the other landing.

Then Jim set a plank up on the landing so that the Advantech would ride across the plank and avoid all the screws and house wrap on the top of the wall.

Then we pushed it up onto the landing...

Jim got behind it and stood it up...

...and then pushed it up onto the landing.

Then he started to fasten it down.  Unfortunately, the screws that he thought would work for this application were too aggressive and just bored through the steel.

He even tried taking the wings off the screws with the grinder but to no avail.  Our normal sheathing screws are too short so he will have to look for some different type.

So instead, we got the next piece cut and ready to go.

End-of-the-day...the carriage house looks so good with all the sheathing and house wrap DONE!

Jim stayed at the end of the day and finished making the first two rafters - he got the clip angles all made and attached so they will be ready to go.
