9.2.2014

The forecast for today was rain and it looked pretty gray this morning.  Jim headed out early to go talk to the people at the concrete plant about scheduling a pumper truck for Friday.  This is a first - he's never used a pumper truck before, plus to do this pour will take about 25 yards of concrete - so that's 2 concrete trucks plus a pumper!  All went very well so we are on the schedule for Friday morning!

He texted me when he got back to the land and said that things were looking gray so I should wait - it was probably going to rain soon.  Then I got another text saying it was raining and he was coming home.  Then another saying - it stopped - come join him!  So off I went...and it ended up being a gorgeous day - little warm and humid, but blue almost cloudless sky and not a drop of rain in sight!

We had figured this was going to be a rain out, so we were definitely given a gift day and used it as best we could.  And we got so much done!

It was back to work finishing up the steel...this is an old blade on top of a new blade...guess we got our money's worth out of that one!  That's a lot of steel that was cut.

Jim working on tying the steel.  Check out those arms from all this hard work!  Quite impressive!

Jim had called the building inspector this morning to schedule a pre-concrete inspection.  He called back at lunchtime and said he could come out at 1:30 today.  Jim told him there were still some things to be done, but he said that was fine.

So he came and said how good everything looked.  He never finds anything wrong or has anything negative to say - just how we like our building inspectors!  Jim also talked to him about backfilling and we got the inspection okay for that too!  Before concrete, Jim would like to get the front section done where the garage doors will be so that we don't have to walk over planks.  So two more inspections in the books!

While the inspection was going on, I was back up on the scaffolding finishing the taping.  All of that is done now except for one area around the garage door where Jim was working.  He's going to set  up his scaffolding in that area to use when we pour, so he wanted me to wait until then.

Mid afternoon, we switched gears and got the foam out to do the bottom of the forms before pouring.  Notice that Jim is wearing gloves this time - I think his hands just recently returned to normal after the first foam experience!

Here he's working on the inside - he used two cans of foam and got all of the inside and outside done!
Another block checked!

At the end of the day, Jim had all of the steel done!  So many accomplishments and celebrations for today - especially considering that we didn't think we would be able to do anything.
