Jim and I were anxious to get to the property this morning to check everything out. Jim's first order of business was to grade the area in front of the carriage house, incorporating all the cement remains that he chopped up last night. It looks really good now!
Then he spent time cleaning up the brick ledges so they will be in good shape. The concrete is only going to continue to get harder to get off the walls and all of the steel he used for shoring, so he got a couple of big areas done. This is the left side wall...
...and this is the front wall.
I spent my time up on the scaffolding taking of the tape and then scraping concrete off the rebar. Even though we tried to clean it off some after the pour, there was still quite a bit of concrete and that can prevent a good bond with the next pour. So I am still working my way around chipping that off.
There is also a lot of loose cement on top of the concrete in the forms - from pulling the tape off to our initial scraping of the rebar to this final scraping. So Jim is vacuuming out all the loose pieces - again to help the concrete bond better next time.
There was a threat of rain all day and the wind really started kicking up after 3:00. We made a last minute decision to stop and clean up and head to church this evening. It never did end up raining.
We're already excited to head back tomorrow - after we both finish what we were working on today, it will be time to bring up some more form and build a little higher!
