7.20.2014

Today we got to start on the footers for the rest of the carriage house.  So this involved first redoing measurements and marking lines.

When we got the laser level set up, we checked all the footers - they were perfect!

Jim had straightened out the footing dowels (aka the candy canes!) so everything looks pristine.  To the left you can see the orange lines marking where Jim has to dig.  These footers are really wide because they have to carry a more concentrated load since it is a straight front.  Plus Jim said he's not going to be engineering-precise when digging this time so we don't have to do as much hand digging!

We had started this area originally but it had caved in a lot when we had the storm damage.  So this is for keeps now.

Starting down the front...

This is a little more tedious digging because Jim has to keep the inside of the structure site clean.  Once we dig the footers, we can't bring the Bobcat across and clean up dirt piles.  So he has to dig with the excavator for awhile and then use the Bobcat to move the dirt away.

This front area is stepped down so it will meet up with the other side so this area is wide and deep!
