Jim started the morning off by ordering all our insulated concrete forms from Nudura - they should be on site in probably two weeks! That's so crazy to think about - I told Jim that I can't imagine what that will look like - these giant lego-like blocks all over the property.
He then went to pick up just a few more wire ties! These are even thicker gauge wire than the ones we had (which I soon found out equals really hard to tie even with the turning tool!).
All the rebar is now finished in the footers! We got everything cut, bent, placed, supported, tied together - it's done. We may go back and put a few horizontal pieces for support but the required steel is all finished.
Jim made the blocking for the end of the footer pour.
This picture is from the front of the structure down the left hand side...
...and this is the back wall to where it meets with the stepped up area. There are a lot of complicated bends and angles in all this rebar.
After we got this all done, Jim was just going to work on some support blocking so I decided to take off and run to the grocery store before he got home. He said I had only been gone about 45 minutes when he heard a truck come up the driveway...it was National Grid!
It turned out to be the same guys who came in the fall and put the transformer in, so that was nice. But it was quite a shock - we just got it inspected on Tuesday and National Grid said it could take two weeks.
Jim said they really liked the pedestal and the way Jim had the two separate boxes. They installed the meter in the box we will use for the carriage house and a blank meter in the one for the house. That way we won't be charged anything for the house one until we are ready to use it.
We're all hooked up! Look at all those zeros! This is a digital meter and in theory they will be able to drive by and read the meter. They said they would have to see because we are pretty far back off the road and there are a lot of trees in between.
Now Jim will just have to decide how he wants to set up his temporary service and we'll be good to go - very exciting!
To top it all off, as we work Jim streams Cleveland sports talk radio all day. The last week has been really crazy with all the rumors that LeBron James might come back to the Cavs. It's certainly made for fun listening. But today it all came true - LeBron is now a Cleveland Cavalier again! It's going to be an exciting NBA season - we'll definitely get League Pass this season. Go Cavs!
