We got up this morning anxious to see our new concrete and get some more work done. The concrete looks so good! Jim started taking the forms off and the diesel oil sure did its job - most of the forms came off relatively easy.
Not that it's an easy task to get the forms off - especially the way Jim builds them. He uses a lot of screws to hold things securely and of course we put in a ton of gravel. The step areas proved very challenging because of the extra form work that went into them.
Once he moved to the below grade sections, a lot of that gravel had to be first shoveled out so that he had access to the screws in the stakes and in the gusset plates. Plus there's not a lot of room to work in those areas.
All of the material used to build the forms had to have all the nails and screws removed, then taken out of the work site and organized so that they are ready for the next build. I worked on that in between any gravel shoveling I could help with while Jim dismantled all the forms.
Then it was on to footer drain work! This job required even more shoveling of gravel. We started below grade so again you are working in tight quarters. It was much easier shoveling the gravel in as opposed to shoveling it out!
Using the handy PVC saw to cut a piece of pipe to the right length.
Doing a little housekeeping and getting stray gravel and dirt off the top of the forms!
This is the area of the buttress wall and the first step.
Jim's finishing up the outer footer drains in this section - we got the entire below-grade area done with both inside and outside drains!
The step areas look really good with all the forms off and footer drains!
We were thrilled with all we got done today. Jim finished up organizing some of the boards and then we headed home to a well-deserved shower!
