The refrigerator has been making noises lately and Jim has pulled it out a couple times to clean and investigate. He could isolate where the noise was coming from and thought it was a fan in the freezer. He bought the service manual download and saw that the evaporator fan was where the noise was coming from. He bought the fan motor from amazon for $20 and it came yesterday, so the plan was to put it in today. Well...when I got up this morning, the freezer was not working. I quickly put some things in the freezer downstairs and we put the rest in a tub that we set outside in the snow that had fallen overnight. It took Jim awhile to get the back panel off - there were clips but he had no idea of their placement so he had to be careful not to force anything.
He eventually got it off and got the panel out where the fan motor was located...
Jim isn't completely convinced that the motor was bad based on what he saw when he took it off. It was obvious the fan blade had rubbed on the housing so Jim would like to replace that at some point too. But he put it all back together (making a mark where the clips are for future use!) and it works! No noise, cooled down to the proper temperature and started making ice. Yay!! Nice to be married to a refrigerator repairman too! 😉
Since he already had his repairman's hat on, he decided to take apart the bathroom drain - it's been slow to drain lately. The pedestal sink makes working on the trap and drain more difficult but he got it apart and we gave everything a good cleaning.
Putting it all back together - it works great now too!
He managed to get a little wood shop time in between all his household duties! He started making the front panel pieces for the refuse cabinet...
He got the other blocking put on the back of the drawer cabinet...
Then he had to get the Bobcat going and plow the driveway - we got about 4" of wet, heavy snow. This morning, the little trees were all bent over from the weight.
While he was out in the snow, he took a shovel and then a pick to unearth some steel pieces he had next to the Bobcat bucket and forks. He wants to use them to make joists underneath his steel table to store his extra steel pieces. He has the ones he wants thawing out now.
Church time!
