He's really anxious to get the stairwell and landing going so he worked on that - used his hammer drill to drill a hole for a fastener to attach the steel angle piece that will make up the outside edge of the landing.
All ready for welding now. Jim had to bring the welder out into the upper stairwell and drop the grounding wire and welding torch down so that he could use it.
All the welding is done - including another piece of angle that will be used to attach the actual stairs.
After that, Jim moved outside to work on the electric box for the outside light. This is again one of those times where using a wood frame construction would have made life easy - you could just cut a hole where you need to put the wires through. But when you have concrete and foam, it's another story. Jim bought a really cool hot knife with a curved blade and actually cut a core of the foam out! He will eventually run the wires and fasten them in this opening. Genius!
Of course, there will be a light on the other side of this garage door that needs to be tied together so that both lights operate with the same switch. So Jim put grommets in the eaves where there were holes in the steel already and used his hole saw to cut holes where he needed them. Now he will be able to run wires connecting the two light fixtures.
Jim got more pieces figured out and built for the overhang section too.
More overhang pieces...
The neighbor that asked Jim's advice on his sagging floor stopped over again with his wife. He asked Jim to stop back over tomorrow morning to assess things again. So that's how Jim will be starting his day tomorrow! The forecast looks a little iffy tomorrow too so we aren't planning to do brick work.
