7.10.2016

Jim had to start the day by going over to the neighbor's house to again talk through his ideas on some of their floor sagging issues.  He ended up being there almost an hour.

But he got right to work once he got to Angel.  He started installing the steel pieces he made for the overhang...

Putting up the next pieces...

One last rafter section to make...

Beveling the edges...

Attaching it to the front of the house.  This is as far as the rafters will go - there will be the hip section to match the left side.  While we love the design and the way it's going to look, this does cause additional issues.  In order to put the hip section on, Jim will probably have to move the scaffolding on the hill - something we didn't want to do.  And now that the overhang is on, all the scaffolding will have to be moved out - so when Jim is attaching siding, he'll be 2 feet away from the house!  But everything needs to be done in order so the overhang needs to be put on.  Poor Jim always has a new challenge to work out!

After the overhang was done for the moment, Jim turned his attention to cutting the decking to fit the landing in the lower stairwell.

Cutting it to size...

Pretty heavy but Jim carried it down into the shop...

...and then had to lift it up onto the frame.

The decking is only 3' wide and the landing is wider, so Jim had to cut the decking lengthwise to get another section.

This piece is a little easier to carry!

Putting it into place...

Wow - looks great inside the steel form!

And incredibly strong - we won't need all that crazy shoring we did for the upper deck!

Jim next drilled holes where he will button weld the decking to the steel.

He also got the other side drilled through the concrete and fastened down to the knee wall with tap cons.  We'll be ready for concrete before long!
