Jim worked on marking, measuring, cutting and installing all of the end shingle pieces this morning.

After another course, Jim decided to see how putting up the roof jacks would go.  It's not quite as easy with wood - he wanted to fasten them to the rafters but that meant screwing them down instead of nailing them.

Putting his weight on the plank to test out the roof jacks...

After putting another roof jack on the right side, he connected the two pieces of planking so that everything would be stable.

After every 3 courses or so, Jim measures again from the bottom and strikes a bottom line.  That ensures that all the courses remain straight and small errors don't propagate.  These shingles are really nice though - there are markings for nails as well as placement lines.

Continuing up...

Jim also has to restrike lines to mark where the rafters are...

Working down the row...

Everything is looking great!

Time for more roof jacks.  This time, Jim used a different technique and nailed them into the sheathing.

Putting the planks on...

Making great progress!  Jim did a couple more courses after I left so pictures will be coming tomorrow!

It was a gorgeous day, but another chilly one.  While the temperatures were in the 40s, there was a strong wind so the wind chill never got out of the mid-30s.
