1.7.2016

I had to head to Saratoga this morning to pick up some printing at Staples.  But Jim's day got started a little earlier than he was planning for.  He got a call this morning that the electric supply store was delivering his wire.  So he had to go out and get things opened.  Then the Bobcat wouldn't start!  Another dead battery!  He had to jump it with the new battery we just bought for the excavator.  Hopefully it will continue working for awhile now but we'll be in the market for yet another battery it appears.

Thankfully Jim got the Bobcat started - he was able to easily get this heavy spool of wire off tehe back of the delivery van.  This is the service wire that will go from the meter pedestal to the carriage house.

Jim spent the rest of the morning working in the downstairs shop.  He was able to make brackets for his desk and get it all put together.

After lunch, it was time for building again!  Before Jim could work, he had to rebuild the platform between the two towers.  We used the original ones for planking over the stairwell opening.

Time to cut the next piece of sheathing...

Squeezing it out of the door opening and out onto the scaffolding is not an easy task.

Before the sheathing could go up, strapping had to be attached first.

Lifting the piece of sheathing into place...

Fastening it down...

Once he got the fastening done, he cut out the area over the door.

Then it was house wrap time!

This side is getting pretty closed in now!

The house wrap is in place - this is another big area to keep safe from the element so we are thrilled.

Jim had to do a little more stapling and taping of the house wrap on the edges which required moving the platform down a little bit.

Now that that section of sheathing and house wrap is done, we can take down part of the scaffolding.  We need that scaffolding to add on to the tower in the back so that we can do the window in the apartment directly above the shop window we got done yesterday.  Jim is good at doing things in precise order.  The rest of the sheathing on this wall has to wait until we can build some walls for the stairwell.

We got two courses of scaffolding taken down and one of the courses taken around the back of the carriage house to be set up tomorrow.  Jim is hoping that he can use just one course plus a stepladder to put the window in.

Our last task for the day was to put some a little house wrap underneath the door area and then put flashing over the sill.  Hopefully this will keep any water that will make its way onto the deck from falling down into the walls.

Bringing out the heat gun to make sure the flashing is stuck tight.

End-of-the-day picture - looking much more buttoned up and safe from the elements now!
