10.8.2015

We think every season is pretty here, but fall in upstate New York is really gorgeous! This is at a little lake right down the street from us.  The leaves are really starting to turn.

It was back to work on the gable wall - here Jim is putting the next stud in.

It's the last stud on this part of the wall!

Which means it's time to build the other wall section.  Jim is making the double beam...

Using our lines on the deck, Jim starts laying out the wall.

Fastening down the next stud...

Check out the perfect point on the corner!  Jim makes everything so precise.

Once again, we flipped the wall section over so that Jim could fasten the studs on the other side to make it more secure when we stand the wall up.

Then we flip the wall back and raise it up.

Just as designed, the two top pieces meet in the middle!

After making two completely separate wall sections, Jim was thrilled that they fit so perfectly.

Love those perfectly straight walls!

The wall is now joined together, braced and looking good!

Time to fill in another stud...

Looks amazing from down below!

Attaching more studs...

...and then the last one!

Next, Jim wanted to get a little bit of a start on the door header.

Taking some measurements....

As much as Jim wanted to continue building the header, he really wanted to get the sheathing attached to the wall.  This sheathing has been there awhile so it's good to get it fastened in place.  While he could, he worked off the scaffolding on the stairwell area.

Then he had to do the rest from the inside leaning over.

Putting the strapping on...

Making sure the last piece of strapping is in the right position...

That wall really changes the way the building looks now!

Jim had to spend time at the end of the day moving the truck down to the garage doors and emptying it out.  Kyle and Julia are coming tonight to help us move out of the barn storage tomorrow.  It's supposed to rain so it will be a good use of the day.  We're excited to see them and for them to see all the progress on the carriage house too!
