Jim worked some this  morning fastening the valley rafter together - you can see just some of the screws that this involves.  Plus there are ones on the top and bottom.  It's amazing how strong this box beam feels now compared to just a single rafter of steel.

Then he put down the base plate and the bigger clip angle for the second valley rafter.

First, we had to get the piece of steel up on the deck.  However, we went into this one with more confidence since we were able to get the pieces up yesterday.

Jim got busy cutting the rafter up on the deck...

About this time, we got a surprise visit from our neighbors.  They walked up to see the progress - it had been awhile since they had been over.  It was good to chat with them but it kind of slowed progress down a little.

After lunch, Jim finished cutting the rafter.  Then he did some measuring and marking of the placement.  This rafter connects to the principle valley rafter, so it's a little more complicated.

But we got it up and in place!

Once Jim was happy with the fit, he started fastening it down at the top...

...and bottom.

We had decided to go to church in the evening, so that means an earlier end to the work day.  But before we left, we got the two other pieces of steel that we have to complete this valley rafter.  That way we can start the day without having to wrestle giant pieces up onto the deck!

The valley rafters make the building take on a whole new look!

It was a chilly work day - we definitely have to get used to working in cooler weather.  I took some old computer equipment to the recycling center around the corner this morning - the mountains are at peak color this weekend and are just gorgeous - especially when the sun shines on them.

However, if you look closely on the deck, you can see we got our first snow - or graupel, really - of the season.  It came in a flurry and then stopped.  However, on our way to church which is a little farther north, we ran into a pretty big graupel squall.  The sky was different every where you looked - from bright blue, to snow, to clouds, and farther north you could see a pretty big snow squall in the air.

High 45/Low 24 - first snow flakes!
