Jim spent a chunk of time late last night putting in the next order of steel - including the rafters that were the wrong size. Thankfully, they told him that the steel will be delivered Wednesday, so that's very good news.
Another good news point was that Jim's Lowe's rep called him and said that she can get the EcoStar composite slate roofing so she is working up a quote too. Then we can see who comes in with the best price!
Jim spent all morning and into the afternoon making rafters. He even had to run home a couple times to check things out on the computer.
Bringing up the first rafter to try out...
First, have to attach the clip angle to the top of the wall.
Then another piece of steel to help hold things in place since this first rafter is at the very end of the wall.
Doing some measurements...
...and fastening the track and channel pieces together at the top and bottom - he had just done enough to keep things stable yesterday.
Setting the end of the rafter down...
...putting it into place...
...and then scampering up the scaffolding to get the other end in place.
Clamping it down before fastening it...
Since the first one fit well, Jim could press on with a few final details on the other ones. Here comes the next rafter...
Putting it into place...
...and fastening it all down.
Last one for the night....
It's really going to start looking like a roof soon!
