4.11.2015...First Construction Day of the Year!

Yesterday, we were back at Lowe's to return the lockset we had bought.  Jim has spent SO much time on locksets - he joked that if he has to spend this much time on every part, we'll never finish this project!  You would think locksets would be easy - you go to the store, pick out the style and color you want, done.  Well...not so easy.  Since we have a commercial door, everything is different.  Shapes of the area where the strike plate goes are different, widths are different, everything is different!  So after doing tons of research online, we knew the set we bought wasn't going to work.  Jim found commercial Schlage sets online that should work - but even that is difficult, with about 13 options available for every little thing you can imagine.  Hence the trip to Lowe's to return it.

While we were there, Jim showed me the area where all of our orders are residing...the first shelf under the top is all ours - that's our Hardi shingles!

Then in the next aisle, The Advantech is the decking material for the next floor as well as a stack of the special order OSB that we got cheap.  Very cool that they are storing all of this for us!

You can see that there is still some snow on Angel!  However, the forecast is for temps to be in the 50s and 60s for the next couple of weeks so that's very exciting!

Jim said that today felt like the first construction day of the year - he got up on the deck and started installing the pour stop.  Obviously this is very important to keep precise measurements - if you look closely, he has a string running along the backside to keep things in line.  The piece had to be punched and then he used the concrete hammer to fasten it down.  Yay - we're back in business!

Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer - in the 60s!  The concrete guy finally called Jim back and he's supposed to stop tomorrow afternoon to look at the site.  Fingers crossed that he shows up because he certainly hasn't been great at returning phone calls.
