He also stopped and picked up the sewer lines that we will need.
This is the totally-finished area for the septic tank....
Jim worked on the smaller area for the distribution tank next - it's even more important that this area be totally flat because this tank distributes the gray water into the three infiltrator lines, where it then leaches into the soil.
So after he got it flat, back came the compactor (and check out that gorgeous sky!).
Not much area to work but at least Jim knows the soil is all compacted.
Time for gravel!
And no job is ever complete without some hand shoveling.
This gravel is so fine that Jim actually used a cement trowel to flatten it all out!
Then back to compacting...
All finished and ready for the distribution tank!
Jim had to do quite a bit of hand shoveling to make sure the grade was exactly right, but then it was time to put down the sewer pipe. Jim first glued one end to it's connector and laid it out to again measure the grade.
Then he took it apart and fastened it permanently - you have very little time to get things right because it's a very quick-setting glue. So after he got glue on, I was on the other end pushing forward while he got it in the right position. We got 3 sections done but ran out of glue, so that will be one of my early-morning errands.
Although Jim doesn't agree, the septic designer calls for the 4" pipe to be put inside a 6" sleeve where the lines pass under the driveway. This causes more problems in trying to make sure everything is at the precise slope because now the lines are inside the bigger pipe. Here Jim is sliding one of the 6" sleeves on.
We did lots of measuring to make sure all is precise.
Then, time to put some sand down.
Looks good! At the end of the day, Jim put a cap on the end just to make sure no little rodent friends decide to climb inside overnight!
Although it's definitely been feeling like spring, never fear...we still have some snow left on the property!
