This morning, Jim brought up my cabinet doors to install them!

Fitting the other door...

Gorgeous!!

I had bought a nice swing out towel bar to install on the back of the door, but unfortunately the arms are a bit too long.  It was a great price so Jim may see if he can modify it.

Next, he started working on installing the mounting blocks and glides on the side of the refuse cabinet for the drawer...

Glides in place...

Then he brought up the drawer for a test fit...

Look how great this looks - just like I imagined!

Behind the paper towel roll, drawer space that will become the all-important junk drawer!

After stalking websites for weeks, I finally snagged an appointment for Jim to get his first Covid vaccine this afternoon in Saratoga!  So we took off to do that - they were very organized and he was finished before his actual appointment time.  The woman behind us had driven up from NYC to get her shot so we felt very fortunate.  The first step towards some normalcy!

Once we were done, we headed into Lowe's - Jim picked up another set of brackets to use for the paper towel holder.

2.27.2021

Today was the day to install the drawers into the cabinet!  Jim first had to figure out placement and attach the glides to the cabinet...

Then he started bringing up drawers to fit them...

Look how pretty!

Trying out the middle drawer...

Once he was satisfied things would fit, he put more screws into the glides to hold them in place.  He had to put more screws into the glides on the drawers themselves as well.

He even cleans up!

Putting the drawers in for good!

Wow - looks SO beautiful!  And it didn't take me long to fill the drawers up!

Jim has to make some spacers to attach to the sides of the refuse cabinet in order to make the drawer fit so he took some measurements and started working on that.

2.26.2021

Jim spent his day working out details on the refuse cabinet drawer.  This has been very complicated - I think Jim is going to bar me from coming to him with a Pinterest idea and saying - can you make this?  But it's so beautiful and I'm really excited about this drawer!  This morning he had to do the dovetail work on the back panel - even more complicated because of the way this drawer was assembled.

But he got it all figured out!

Starting to reassemble...

Putting it all together - using countersunk screws on the bottom...

We had a multitude of discussions on how best to open this drawer as well as placement of the paper towel roll...

Once we figured all that out, Jim put one side of the rod holder in place as well as the front drawer pul.  Jim has to order another set of rod holders because he is going to use two of the same drop-in type of brackets.  He attached the drawer glides to the sides...

Now that it is all assembled, tomorrow he'll bring it up into the kitchen for a trial fit.  He'll also have to figure out glide placement to the existing cabinets.  Then, he'll have to take this drawer all apart for finishing, which will also be a challenge.  The front part around the paper towel holder will be gray and the back drawer part will have Formica on the bottom and polyurethaned to match the rest of the drawers. A tall order!

Jim put a cherry front on the sides of the refuse cabinet drawer so that end grain wouldn't show - both sides now have the glide space cut.

This is the bottom of the drawer - there will be a diver where the groove is and that will be the paper towel dispenser section with drawer space behind.

Putting together the first drawer!

So pretty!!

All three drawers are now assembled!

Time for a coat of gray on the front of the sink base cabinet drawers...

All done and drying...

Jim worked in the metal shop at the end of the day - cart is coming along nicely!

2.24.2021

Jim figured out where the cabinet door hinges need to go...

Then doing the millwork...

Millwork done for hinges...

Once he attached the hinges, he brought up one door to see how it fits...

Then he brought up the other one - look how pretty this is going to look!

He continued working on the pieces for the refuse cabinet drawer - it's starting to take shape...

Starting to do some of the millwork on the pieces - these hinges will be inset into the sides of the cabinet to save space...

2.23.2021

Jim continued working on making pieces for the refuse cabinet drawer...

Planing wood...

A coat of primer on the back side of the sink base cabinet doors...

After they dried, a coat on the front side...

After lunch, Jim installed my new shelf...

Of course, it didn't take me long to fill it up!

We got about 6" of new snow yesterday, so Jim fired up the Bobcat and snow blower and cleared the drive.  He was able to get up and down okay so that's good news!

With his remaining time today, Jim did some work in the metal shop on his welder cart...

Cutting steel...

It's looking really good!

We haven't seen any turkeys (or any wildlife) for a long time, but Jim saw some turkeys trying to navigate the deep snow this afternoon...
