Jim and I feel like this when it snows and we're up here on the top of our big hill - we can't see a thing but our property when we look out the window. Beautiful! Until Jim has to go out and take care of it, that is! Between yesterday and last night, we probably got 8"-10" of snow from this storm. Thankfully though, we didn't lose power - everything else is doable!
Jim plowed before lunch and then later in the afternoon he went out and hand shoveled around the garage doors from the snow falling off the roof. Then he tried to scrape some gravel from our frozen pile to put it on the icy spots of the driveway. I have to go into town tomorrow so he wants the driveway to be in good shape for me.
Jim continued working on the window frames when he wasn't out taking care of the snow. He used the ShopSmith to drill all the holes for attaching the extension to the spacer frame as well as to the window.
Drilling these holes is a two step process...made a little easier to understand thanks to Jim's drawing. He first has to drill the bigger hole but just partway down. Then he drills the smaller hole with a longer bit. He knows the exact size he needs so that the brad screw top will sit exactly on the shoulder of the hole when Jim fastens it to the window.
So each of these holes had to be drilled twice!
Then he used to jointer to make all the rabbet cuts...
The living room window jamb extensions are all assembled! Jim just has to turn the outer edges over and they'll be ready for staining.
