He first cut all the 1" planed strips to the right widths for the spacer frames. Then he had to make the notches in each end so that the frame pieces key together well. He lined the edges up on his outfeed table so that the reference line would be the same on all the pieces.
Once the reference lines were made, he made the first scoring cut.
The second cut is the long cut for the notch - Jim uses the table saw and stands the piece vertical.
These pieces are all notched on both ends...
Jim test fitting the piece on one of the living room windows to make sure the placement is correct.
Once all the pieces are milled, Jim started assembling the frames. He first used the Shopsmith drill press to drill all the holes to mount the spacer frame to the window. Then he fastened all the frame joints together.
Once they were assembled, Jim used the jointer to make the rabbet cuts around the perimeter of the frame. The rabbet cuts will allow the jamb extension to key into the spacer frame for accurate placement.
