This is the only area that needs dimple board and then we can backfill that area too!
Jim spent time this morning getting the laser level out and working on getting more gravel in the building and making sure it's level. That will be important when we put up the shoring for the deck. Plus, it will make things easier in the spring when we think about getting ready to pour the floor. Of course, lots of moving things around is involved before Jim could add gravel and level it off.
Jim also got word today that our steel trusses will be in to the steel yard early next week. That means Jim will have to coordinate the delivery with a crane again. We don't need these trusses until next spring, but it was part of the deal that we take delivery of them now. Jim will have to build a wood harness to keep them off the ground and we will have to cover them to protect them from the elements this winter. So, he had to figure out the best spot to keep them - they will be 30' long - plus they have to be close enough to the structure so the crane can reach them when we are ready to have them placed next year. However, they can't be in the way now or block access to the rest of the building. Jim is thinking we'll rearrange the area where we are storing supplies now and make it work there. We are done with drain pipe now, so I carried all the extras up near the shed. This will be a work in progress!
We had forgotten that we needed to do a little more membrane work around the two thimbles in the back corner. So I worked on that - we want to make sure there are no leaks so I put lots of strips of membrane around the thimbles. I also used duct tape to tape the seams of the dimple board so that a strong wind won't get behind them and cause damage. Alas, I ran out of duct tape so that project will be continued tomorrow.
Jim then turned his attention to more metal work. This space below is open because that's the location of the stairwell. However, Jim is going to put up more metal decking there to close off the space for the winter. He had asked for the cutoff pieces from the steel so they are the perfect size to put up temporarily. He was punching holes in them as I left for the day.
On one of my trips to the shed, I just had to take a picture of the mountain view. Now that the leaves are off the trees, things look so different. This is what our view will be from the back of the house eventually!
I'm making an addition to the daily blog - the weather. Jim looked back to what we were doing last year at this time (finishing up the trench for the electric - we've come a long way!) and he was wondering what the temperature was. So I'll add the day's weather for future reference!
