We headed out before lunch on Wednesday and headed down to Philadelphia. The GPS took us around NYC on the New Jersey Turnpike - a few of the city... But that's a very harrowing drive with way too many cars and people driving crazy - especially when you aren't sure exactly where you are going!
We decided to go directly to the shop that had the power screed. It was a little pawn shop stuffed to the gills with all kinds of tools, equipment and probably whatever else you needed!
Jim was absolutely thrilled with the condition of the screed. It hardly looks used - not even dried concrete on it as would be typical. Jim took it outside and started it to be sure but then we loaded it in the car.
That mission done, we found the hotel and caught our breath before heading to a fun neighborhood pub for burgers and beer.
The big news on everyone's mind and certainly ours during the trip was the Coronavirus. All the hype certainly tends to make you a bit paranoid. It ended up that our hotel was near the Philadelphia Airport. We had brought disinfecting wipes and first thing cleaned all the handles, remotes, light switches, anything we would touch. In the morning, we decided that maybe the restaurant buffet was not the best idea, so we went to a nearby Cracker Barrel. Usually, they are packed - we were one of maybe four occupied tables in the entire restaurant. Our waitress spent a lot of time talking to us because I think she was bored - said that business had dropped off immensely. We streamed Cleveland sports talk radio and all the talk was about basically shutting down all sports. We were careful to use hand sanitizer frequently but were SO happy to get back home!
It's a very different weather world here too. In Philadelphia, trees were budding and flowers had bloomed. We still have plenty of snow here on Angel!
It was a fun get away and we certainly were happy to get the tool but even happier to be home safe and sound!
