11.9.2018 - Barn roof is done!

Another dry day so Jim was back up on the roof of the pole barn...

Working on the last row - the last 2 rows all had to be cut down a bit but of course the front and back sides came out exactly!

Flat roof shingles are all up...

Which required some celebration!

But not a long celebration because it was time to move on to the next step - ridge shingles.  Jim was figuring out how the placement would go first...

Then it was time to cut the underlayment off the vent area at the peak...

Next was attaching the vent material - he first tacked it on one side...

Finishing attaching the vent material and cutting off the excess...

Next was the first ridge shingle!  These are the hardest shingles to put up - first, they are very rigid so folding them over the top of the stiff vent material is difficult.  Jim has to hammer these in by hand but has to predrill holes in the shingles first.

Working along the ridge...

Putting up the last ridge shingle - the roof is done!  Jim was bound and determined to get the ridge finished so he worked past sunset.  Tomorrow he'll get the roof jacks off and I'll get a finished picture!  But we are so happy we made the decision to go with these shingles again - since the barn is close to the carriage house, everything looks very cohesive.
