Then he worked on the water softener. It came with a sediment filter and Jim purchased a new carbon filter. Our water is wonderful but if you get real close to it, there's a hint of an iron smell. The water analysis showed no iron particles which is what causes the staining, but there was still a bit of iron. Thankfully, Jim had prepared for filter changes and had put shutoff valves before and after the filter. There is also a pressure-relief button on the softener which allowed him to easily remove the filter with no gushing water! Jim said the filter looks good - no black sulfur marks and good for a new well.
Then he put the new filter in and got everything back together. We think it's already making a difference, although the smell was hard to detect to begin with.
Jim did get out to work in the afternoon. He hadn't put the new cable on that the company finally sent to replace the damaged one.
Then, he tested everything out and it works like a charm! No snow to blow yet (hopefully not for awhile!) but the controls operate everything just the way they are supposed to. To see these blades spinning in real life is pretty amazing - it looks scary powerful!
