11.2.2018

I didn't start November off very well by skipping the blog yesterday!  It was a holy day so we went to church in the afternoon.  After that, we headed back into Saratoga to pick up a chair I found for the second bedroom and then went for nachos and beer.  Jim brought my chair up today and it looks great in the room and will be a perfect reading spot!

The weather over the last two days has continued to be on/off rainy, bringing lots of fog to the area as seen over the Hudson River yesterday...

Jim has been doing lots of  different inside jobs, including spending a lot of time on my new computer.  Today he got all of my data files transferred so it's getting close.

A big chunk of his time over the last two days has been organizing and moving things from the metal shop up into the attic of the pole barn.  Jim has gotten all his extra steel that didn't go on Shelf B up there and the metal shop floor cleaned where it was.  That requires lots and lots of trips up and down the ladder into the attic space!

He's also spent lots of time on the water softener issue.  The new control valve came back from the manufacturer today.  Jim had talked to the tech who said at first it wouldn't work, but then he got it working and tested out.  However, once Jim attached it all back up, it still didn't work.  They were on the phone for over an hour today going through different troubleshooting operations.  Nothing worked.  The tech is sending a new adapter to try and we'll go from there.

This afternoon, Jim also dealt with a Craigslist sale of our air purifier (a necessity in our old apartment with smokers below us!).

Then he loaded up the box truck with our two leftover pieces of sheathing and headed to the lumber yard.  He returned them and bought lumber that he will be using for framing details on the barn.  He'll use it to frame the door opening and do the detail work that needs to be done before he can attach the metal siding to the barn.  Speaking of that, our roofing/siding order looks like it will now come in on Monday.

The last piece of the furnace puzzle was to get the outdoor temperature sensor mounted and activated.  Jim started that process today as well.  He first had to pick a good spot - out of direct sunlight, away from vents - so he put it on the back corner of the stairwell.

It has a nice waterproof cover...

Next step was to run the control wire...

Jim decided to  take the wire into the box with the cable, so he drilled a very small hole and fed the wire into the box...

Another look...

Then he was able to get the sensor wired up...

And its cover back on...

He fed it into the stairwell and down into our vent area...

Then into the furnace room...  Now Jim just has to secure the wire along the way and connect it to the furnace.  Having the outside temperature will make our furnace even more efficient.
