6.17.2014

George was at the lot bright and early this morning.  They discussed the design for the septic system and he was all in agreement with where Jim wanted the tank and the leach field for the carriage house.  So Jim had to dig a 6' hole in the leach field area and George checked to make sure it was undisturbed dirt and to check the layers of strata.  Then Jim had to hand dig a hole where George did the perc test to see how fast/slow water filters and drains through the ground.  He said ours was in the best category so it requires the least amount of lines in the leach field.  That was good news but certainly no surprise - we know this land has so much soil and drains so well.

George also really liked the lot and likes our design for the carriage house.  He said he would be anxious to come and see it progress this summer.  He will have our septic design ready Monday morning and then we can take it to the building department and hopefully a permit will be in our hands soon!

After George left, Jim had to go to the sand and gravel place.  They do things very differently here than in Ohio - you have to set up an account with them and then they contract with the people who deliver sand/gravel/concrete who give you prices and arrange delivery.  Jim got his account finalized and ordered a truck of mason sand to be delivered today and gravel coming tomorrow.

This afternoon as promised, the guy came with the mason sand.

Truck leaving the property
After the sand was delivered, Jim went to the steelyard.  This place already has Jim's quote request but Jim told him that rebar would be the first thing he needed.  So he called them about it and he went and paid for it today - it should be ready for pick up in a few days.

Then Jim wanted to get a coat of paint on the shed for protection.  I had taken our window sample in and had it color matched so we could see color.  Jim got it painted except we didn't have enough paint for the backside.  That side doesn't see much weather so we'll get more paint and do that as time allows.  But I think the color will look really nice.
