Jim did all the prep work on the new cabinet this morning to get it ready to bring up - like predrilling all the attachment holes.  First step in the kitchen was to attach the ledger board to the blocking in the walls...

Bringing up the cabinet!

Setting it up on the countertop while he gets everything in place...

Ladder and tools in the kitchen - time to put the cabinet in place...

Fastening it to the wall...

Attaching the two cabinets together...

Then the fun part - starting to fill it up!  It's so gorgeous to see this whole section of cabinets in place!

Jim putting contact cement on the next two shelves...

Formica attached and rolling it to insure a good contact...

Now that I was able to get my everyday dishes in the cabinets, that left my hutch for my collection of Depression glass!  I had so much fun unwrapping it all from when I packed it up in Ohio.  It looks so pretty!

Not quite as pretty was the many boxes and newspaper wrappings that surrounded me - Jim and I walked down two giant boxes full of cardboard and newspaper to the recycling can!

6.29.2020

We were eating breakfast this morning when the power went out.  Thankfully, the generator kicked on.  Jim reported the outage on his National Grid app.  About 15 minutes later, we heard the generator stop and the commercial power was back on.  Then about 9:30, a National Grid van pulls into the driveway to check and make sure everything was okay!  Jim told him the power was back on.  The guy said that although there were outages down the street in another grid, we were the only one in our grid that lost power so he was just making sure all was okay.  In what world does that happen? Amazing!

This morning, we started out outside, moving the old plywood that we had temporarily stored outside back into the pole barn.  Jim put small blocks of wood underneath the pile to keep the boards off the floor and then strapped it to the wall.

Jim moved the snow blower back into its place and moved the Bobcat back in.  Things are looking good in the pole barn!

And the outside area by the auto bay doors is now all clear - ready for some concrete forms soon!

A few days ago, we heard the sound of a tree falling.  We walked down to take some trash out and saw the tree.  This was our tarp tree - it grew with a piece of tarp stuck inside!  But it was at an angle and came crashing down into the woods.

Sadly, it took two other trees with it - you can see the root balls in this picture.  This is all in the woods but we'll have some clean up work to do at some point.

Then Jim switched to working in the wood shop - putting the new cabinet together!

The view from the front...

Then attaching the face frame...  I'm getting so excited because this cabinet is getting close to being brought upstairs!

Sanding the shelves...

And a coat of polyurethane to finish off the work day...

Time for Jim to head to the treadmill - where does he get all his energy?

Jim got more cabinet shelves in the gluing process...

Another one...

All the work lately has made lots of man glitter!  You can see where the top of the bag is and how high the sawdust is - this is a messy job to get it all tied up in a bag.

This afternoon, Jim had to do a little modifying of the holes for the adjustable shelves.  The shelf holders that fit in them were deeper than Jim had planned for so he had to drill a bit deeper.

But now I have another shelf!

Jim worked on making a couple more shelves in the pole barn.  He uses every inch of space possible - here he's putting a shelf behind the support member...

Jim was able to get all our extra siding pieces off the floor and out of the way.

Measuring to make another shelf...

Installing the shelf behind in the back corner behind the support member.  Jim had to be a bit of a contortionist to work on this one!

At the end of the day, another application of polyurethane...

Jim continued doing some planing and cutting of the new wood he bought for pole barn shelves - you can see in the background of this picture that he has boards standing along the wall to dry out.

He cut the side pieces and did the millwork on these next two shelves...

Gluing...

More polyurethane...

It was a cooler day today so it was a good day to venture up into the attic to bring down some of my Depression glassware.  Once I get my new shelves and cabinets, I'm hoping to empty out my hutch and put all the Depression glass in.  It will be like Christmas to open all those boxes!

Jim did some more installation of the flashing along the top edge of the brick on the auto bay as well as worked in the pole barn a little.  We're off to church in the living room!

Putting the Formica on two temporary shelves for the next cabinet...

All done and drying...

More wood glueing to turn into shelves!

A coat of polyurethane...

In the afternoon, Jim went to the small sawmill nearby.  This place doesn't have kiln-dried wood but Jim just needed some more wood for shelving in the pole barn.

Jim lightly planed the wood and then started cutting it to size...

Putting the top shelf piece on...

6.25.2020

This morning, Jim drilled the holes in the side cabinet pieces for the adjustable shelves.  I plan on using this cabinet for glassware, so he gave me lots of options for sizes.

Working on the next shelf pieces...

 And glueing up more!

A coat of polyurethane on various shelf pieces...

He brought up one of my adjustable shelves and I already have it filled!

I ran into Lowe's and Home Depot this morning along with some grocery store errands.  I picked up another tube of the self-leveling concrete caulk so this afternoon Jim finished the rest of the area we had taped off.

Pulling off the tape so easily!

The rest of the afternoon, Jim spent finishing a multitude of loose ends.  He worked with the concrete company down in Albany to finalize his order of the screed bar for the power trowel.  He also did the battery rework on the 4Runner - removing the excavator battery that we had been using and putting the 4Runner one back in.  That officially closes the Mini battery saga!

He also took a load of steel to the recycling center - we've managed to get rid of lots of accumulated stuff this week!  He also spent a good bit of time doing some trimming in the yard...
