9.4.2018

I didn't get a picture of the moldings Jim made yesterday once he got them primed.

This morning he put the stop moldings on our bedroom door...

Then he put polyurethane on 3 window sashes - the bottom kitchen windows as well as one of the wood shop windows.

Right after lunch, we got busy continuing the grading work in the back.  Doing some hand shoveling to get the dirt close to the house.  Unfortunately, it's difficult to get close to the house in this area with the Bobcat.

Amazing - just one little scoop of dirt left from our giant topsoil pile!

Continuing to shovel dirt up by the house...

A view from the other side of the carriage house - definitely starting to get built up to where it needs to be.

Doing a little grading of the area on the back side...

Jim has to do some grading by hand at the back edge...

Looking good!

Time to clean up the topsoil area - of course, there would be a giant rock there.

The pile is officially gone!  It's been there for years since we first started excavating so it's pretty incredible to see it all gone.

Time for more rocks (with some growth along for the ride!).

We put rocks along the edge to prevent erosion, like we did in the front of the house.  That worked so well - we have had no issues in that area.

Then a layer of gravel to fill in the spaces between the rocks and help water percolate through.

Then we put another layer of smaller rocks on top of the gravel.  Jim brought down another bucket of rocks - we got those put down to almost cover the back.  A good afternoon's work!

Jim had to do a little more grass cutting at the end of the day.
