Hope everyone had a safe and happy Labor Day - thought this clip art was kind of appropriate for the Labor Day celebrations around here!
Rounding over the edges...
Doing some work on Shelf B...
The afternoon was devoted to grading work. Jim had to scoop up some of the big rocks that were in our topsoil pile.
Then he compacted the pile a bit to make it easier to scoop.
Jim took up some topsoil and filled in some areas around the meter pedestal and the electric transformer.
Putting dirt close to the house...
Jim wanted to compact the dirt a bit. He first started it in the back of the truck to make sure it would start - and it did. So he loaded it up in the Bobcat and took it behind the house.
Getting down to the end of the topsoil pile means that there is a lot of growth left - Jim uses the pitchfork to get the piles of vines out.
Doing more grading...
Wow - looking good on this back wall!
Working around the corner too...
Jim was all ready to compact the long side of the house - and the compactor wouldn't start. He messed around with it for quite awhile, finally resorting to using some starter fluid.
He eventually got it to start but he had to keep the choke on.
The dirt was so loose that it was a real challenge for Jim to keep his footing and push this extremely heavy machine!
Working around the corner a bit...
The compactor still wasn't working great and Jim was satisfied that he got the edges done okay, so it was time to put the first layer of rocks down.
Just as we were making good progress with that job, a pop-up shower came through. It only lasted about 15 minutes but it was enough that it would make for messy working conditions. It was already after 5:00 so Jim just took the compactor down and worked on it for awhile. He got it running better so hopefully it will work okay to finish out the few jobs we need it for this fall!
