11.1.2024

It's hard to believe it's November, but it felt like it when you were outside.  Our little spell of Indian Summer is over, and the temperatures dropped all day.  Plus, there was a brisk wind, which made it feel even colder.  Jim decided to do some cleanup of trees while we wait for our steel to come.  He had pulled out these striped maples a few days ago but there was one that was too far for the excavator to reach.  He brought up his big, heavy chain and wrapped it around the tree and the excavator...

And pulled...

Timber!

Moving it out of the way...

He dragged up the trees he had cut previously...

Then started cutting roots off - you can see that the root balls on these striped maples are very small.

More root cutting...

There were some trees behind the shed area that Jim cut down when we were getting ready for concrete, so he cut the roots of those...

Time for root gathering...

We took them to our spot deep in the woods to let Mother Nature work on them...

There was a pile of rocks near the shed area too that Jim needed to move, so the thumb once again came in handy to pick them up...

And deposit them into the bucket...

He dropped the load near the wall and we'll place them at another time...

Jim finished up his dolly for the power trowel, using its shipping pallet and modifying it with steel strips and wheels...

High 66.7/Low 53.2 - windy
