8.21.2020

Kyle came last night about 10:30 - it was so good to see him!  We haven't seen him since ChowderFest before the pandemic started.  Jim and Kyle were able to talk through a few things and then everyone headed to bed to hopefully get some sleep (that was the plan but not sure how much anyone really got!).

This morning, it was time for a few last minute things like putting up a tarp to protect the house from concrete splatters.

The crew is ready!

The concrete truck came pulling up early, about 7:15.  Everyone has coffee in hand and doing a little strategizing...

Time to start...

This driver was great and went very slowly which was so helpful.  Kyle is placing and Jim is vibrating the edges...

Getting in the thick of it and vibrating the edges...

First time using the power screed!  You can see the driver helped out too!

Getting it flat...

Time to move onto the driveway slab...

Jim getting the front edge in good shape...

Using the power screed...

Kyle did all the edge vibrating in between placing...

Jim using the bull float...

Jim had removed the end steel so that the driver could pull up into the area.  Once they got close, Kyle put the steel back in place...

Almost all placed!

Kyle is placing the concrete in the pad for the hose reel...

Floating...

Concrete truck is cleaned out and gone - all that's left is the finishing work!  Doing the edges...

Floating and edge work...

Kyle bringing extra concrete to fill in low spots...

Another floating of the stairwell pad...

Doing the edges...

Time for some clean up...

Wow - sure looks amazing!

Final floating of the stairwell pad...

And then the driveway...

Using the concrete broom to make the final finish...

Brooming the pad...

Perfect!

Looks fabulous!

More cleaning...

A tired and happy crew finally sitting down!

Celebrating with cinnamon rolls and coffee and celebrating a job well done!

What a great view from inside the garage...

They had to break up the piles of cement from the extra the driver dropped to where he cleaned out the truck.  Jim uses the Bobcat to turn it back into gravel.

Putting a coat of sealer/curing agent on the concrete...

The concrete had already pulled away from this back form so they took the stakes off and took off the form...

The vibrating did a great job - the edges look picture perfect!

Jim and Kyle caught up on all the things that have gone on since Kyle was last here.  Kyle's also making some much better car dollies for Jim to use for the Mini, so they did a test fit on those.

Then it was time to bring up my pantry cabinet - I sure have been waiting for this!

Coming up the stairs...

Setting it up on the counter...

and into place...

It looks so good!  Jim hasn't attached it to the block in the back wall so I can't use it yet but hopefully soon!  The space in between the two cabinets is planned for a wine rack at some point.

High 82/Low 58 - perfect!
