3.8.2019

Jim has been moving my car outside when he is welding, just to make sure no stray sparks cause any issues.  Today he put up a tarp so he won't have to worry about that.

He did a ton of metal work today - he welded these alignment angles to the support arms...

Then grinded and polished them...

All nine of the support arms are now done and ready for painting!

He also worked on the bottom plates for the work bench - drilling and tapping the holes.

These are all done and you can see how the feet will attach.

Jim decided to fasten his bench grinder to his steel table so that it wouldn't move when he was using it.  He had to first drill a hole...  By the way, this drill is probably 35 years old and still working well.  It has these guides to keep the hole perfectly straight while you're drilling.

Then he had to tape the hole to make it threaded...

Grinder attached!

He also worked on the base pieces for the wood rack - attaching this plate...

Jim was demonstrating how it will all come together.  The post will attach to the base and he made this tension bar to connect the two to resist all the forces that will be created when the support arms are loaded up with heavy wood.

He'll also put clip angles on the front connection to again keep the post from bending under the weight.
