The final coat on the desk pieces sure made them look gorgeous!

Jim worked on the millwork on all the desk drawer fronts today...

3.30.2022

Today, it was Mom and I's turn to be up and out early - she had an 8:00 appointment with the hearing aid doctor for a two-week trial fit of her new hearing aids.  We did some grocery errands afterwards - we got home in time to unpack, eat some lunch, and head back out for her eye exam to talk about getting her other cataract removed.

Jim had been busy while we were gone, of course.  Here's the desk drawer front with the side rails - I really like this design...

More wood glued up for more drawer fronts...

The desk top is all sanded awaiting it's final coat of polyurethane, hopefully.

Jim had to come up with a design for moulding in the bathroom for a tiny area between the shower and the new cabinet...

Trial fit - looks perfect!

Jim got to use his new press for the first time today to press in the feet base.  Base in the hole he drilled...

Then pressing it in...

Done...

Both legs done on this side...

Then the adjustable feet screw into the base...very elegant!

A coat of polyurethane on the desk pieces to end the day...

3.29.2022

Jim had an early start to his day - he had to drive into our doctor's office to give blood before his physical next week.  Once home and filled up with coffee and breakfast, he did a little caulking on some of the corner moulding pieces in the bathroom this morning...

He decided to make oak sides on the desk drawers - it will match the top of the desk design as well as give some stability.  One of the drawers will be a big file drawer so that may have a tendency to bow; these side pieces will help prevent that.

All the pieces are sanded in preparation for another coat of polyurethane at the end of the day...

Jim finished taping around the moulding pieces today - that is professional taping for sure with all those different shapes around the door!

Then starting to paint.  Jim remembered how much he hated working around the toilet!

Another coat of polyurethane on the desk pieces...

Starting to remove the tape...

3.28.2022

Jim is experimenting with a new drawer design for his desk so he started gluing up some pieces today...

Staining on other side of bottom desk pieces...

Another coat of polyurethane on the legs and desk pieces...

With his time at the end of the day, Jim did some taping in the bathroom, in anticipation of painting moulding...

Just a sample of the "done" taping process - it's done around the shower and door as well...

Jim cut the back for the medicine cabinet today...

Cut with rounded corners to fit perfectly inside and then primed...

More millwork done on the bottom panels (notches cut to fit around legs) and then a coat of stain...

Prepping the pieces for a coat of polyurethane...

Using the crack filler to protect the grooves on the leg (so ingenious!)...

Starting to poly...

Jim's trick to put screws in the top and bottom of each leg worked out perfectly when applying the polyurethane.  He was able to turn them and basically do each side flat...

Lots of pieces drying...

More pieces drying...

Although we had flakes flying around for a good part of the day, nothing stuck around.  Mom and I had 6 pounds of apples that we turned into applesauce this afternoon - it was a good day for that!

3.26.2022

There's only a few of these little snow/ice patches left in the yard.  There's a little snow in the forecast for tomorrow so hopefully we'll see a little more white!

Jim did lots of painting today - priming on the medicine cabinet...

Lots and lots of priming on the medicine cabinet...

Using the drum sander to sand the bottom desk pieces...

Millwork done on the bottom pieces...

Doing staining on the other side of the desk back panel...

Once the medicine cabinet pieces were dry, Jim was able to turn the pieces over and prime the other side...

Lots of pieces drying...

Experimenting with a way to be able to polyurethane the desk legs...

Time for church!
