Jim taped off the moulding along the wall in the master bedroom this morning...
All done - he may paint tomorrow...
Oops...Jim waited just a bit too long to change his sawdust bag! We did get some good news - after ordering his new shop vacuum back in March, it finally shipped and it may come this week. Meanwhile, Jim has a few bags of sawdust and texted his sawdust buddy to hopefully come and pick it up.
Jim got more wood glued together for moulding...
In the afternoon, it was time to work on the meter pedestal top. Jim brought the ladder up - we got to revisit our concrete markings from back in June of 2014 when we built this!
Jim getting ready to mix up some mortar...
Mixing...
Jim brought the stone up close to the pedestal and started placing mortar...
Once the mortar was in place, he put some runners on top so that all the mortar didn't squish out when he was placing the stone...
Moving the stone into place...
Getting it set on top of the pedestal...
Of course, then he had to lift the stone in order to get the runners out...
Making sure its level...
Final jointing...
All done!
Of course, the set up and clean up takes longer than the actual job. Getting rid of the rest of the mortar...
Cleaning all the tools...
Jim had hoped to use the other lawn hydrant and then power spray the brick on the pedestal to get rid of some of the efflorescence or the white marks. But he was able to stretch enough hose to reach from the lower hydrant...
Power spraying...
Turned out perfectly! We want to paint the conduit but the pedestal looks so nice now - plus, it's protected from the elements.
Once he got all the equipment and tools put away, Jim spent some time on the driveway area. Using the excavator, he was able to get a bucketful of the big rocks pulled out of the dirt pile...
