8.11.2014

This morning, Jim decided to walk to the NAPA store to get the brake line he needed to repair the truck.  As he set out, he stopped and talked to the workers who are redoing the house next door.  Today, they started taking the slate off that was on part of the roof.  Jim had asked them before and they said that someone else had already asked and they were giving the slate to them.  But he asked again today and they said he could have it!  They said the other person took the slate that was over the porch and didn't need any more.  So after Jim got his brake line, he had to take all the slate to the property in two trips.  It was a lot of work - it's heavy and fragile.  It's obviously old and needs cleaned but it will be perfect for our future little chapel in the woods (thanks, Julia, for the great idea!).

The slate adventure took up most of Jim's morning but he got to work placing the next course of Nudura on the new concrete.  Unfortunately, this required a lot of work in places where the concrete was a little high and also required cutting the keys off in various places.  It didn't help that it was about 85 degrees either!

But before long, we had walls out of the ground on our new concrete!

For the most  part, Jim got most of the way around.  There are just a few places he needs to work on.  He set our brick sample on the corner brick ledge to show what it will eventually look like.

This is the first piece of the 4th course of Nudura - and the 2nd course on the ground level!  Plus Jim started putting steel in this corner.

At the end of the day, it was time for Jim to put on his mechanic hat and crawl under the truck to work on fixing the brake line.

I spent most of the afternoon going around the outside of the building and cutting off all the little foam balls that Jim worked so hard to put on (shown below).  One of our upcoming steps is to put the waterproof membrane on the outside, so everything has to be clean.
