8.10.2014

Jim started his day off doing a little truck investigation.  Another brake line was leaking!  As before, we are so grateful that it broke when we were at the lot as opposed to traveling on the mountain roads.  He got the brake lines off and will make a trip to the store soon to get replacement lines and patch things back up.

After that, he started getting ready for the day - bringing over lots of Nudura for the next steps.  Before long, he had the pieces cut and put together that go on the ground-level footers.

Then he moved over to the front side and started working on fitting the course on top of what we just poured.  This will take some work - if you look closely at the bottom of the Nudura sitting on the new cement, there are marks where Jim had to cut individual keys off the bottom of this course.  That's because it is sitting on the ledger piece and there aren't as many keys.  Plus, he had to make sure the cement was flat enough that the keys will snap together tightly.

While Jim was working on forms, I first took apart some of the plywood pieces that he and Bryan built to support the Nudura.  Jim started with an empty coffee can when he took off all the metal and wood supports - by the time I got the pieces taken apart and added to the can, it was just about full.  That was a lot of work that went into building all those wood and metal supports!  But it all worked, so it was definitely worth it.

Then I spent the rest of the afternoon going back to cleaning out the keys - I'm almost done.  There will still be lots of clean up to go, but we're making good progress.

The walls are getting taller!
