5.30.2025

Yesterday was kind of a strange day.  Jim had to get blood work done in the morning and we had Holy Day services in the afternoon.  In between, we got some things done around here and visited Mom.

Today, Jim's first task was to meld the drip edge connections at the ridge on both the front and back sides.  They turned out nice...

Then it was back to shingles...

Doing some distressing...

Working on the top row - hard to get good pictures on this side because of the trees and the slope.

All done!

The birds-eye view!

Jim still has to do the ridge vent and shingles, but those shingles haven't come in yet.  He went up in the pole barn attic to see what kind of vent material he had left...

Since the roof is done for the moment, we unpacked another bundle of siding parts, including the fascia boards which will be his next job.

Jim wanted to get the drip edge on the overhang done, so doing some measurements...

Working on the side piece...

This was a challenge to get the sides to mate well with the front, but he's happy with the way it turned out...

It was another beautiful day, so Jim got busy back on the roof.  Time to put up the roof jacks...

5.27.2025

Jim got busy doing the prep work for roofing on the other side today.  Cleaning the roof a bit...

He had to remove the button fasteners at the bottom of the underlayment and then cut off the excess underlayment on the sides.  Next was cutting off the tails of the fascia board...

Getting the drip edge in place...

A couple staples to hold the drip edge in place...

Cutting the next piece of drip edge to size...

Nailing the drip edge...

Next step is putting down the double-sided tape on the sides...

Then the drip edge...

Putting the drip edge on the back...

Time for shingles...

First the row of starter shingles...

Starter row about done...

Doing the distressing on the edge pieces...

Once the first row of shingles are in place, time to take the toe board down...

Starting the next row of shingles...

End-of-the-day picture...

Jim cleaned up and did a little more grass cutting before calling it a day.

5.26.2025

Memorial Day is a reminder of how important it is to remember and honor all the military personnel who died in the service of our country.  Freedom is not free.

It was another day of on and off rainy weather.  Jim knew the forecast in the afternoon was for showers, so he got some grass cut before lunch.  He got started again after lunch but got rained out.

Jim and I love the cooler weather, although the on/off rain makes it hard to get things done, although our property is so amazing that things are never muddy.  But this was a funny picture I saw today about the weather lately...

At the end of the day, we went into Dick's Sporting Goods to try out an elliptical model similar to one we are considering.  Buying on line is nice and convenient, but sometimes you just want to try things out too.

5.25.2025

Still had to fight a few raindrops and clouds today, but Jim pressed on and got lots done.  He started out doing some measurements so that he can begin adjusting placement as he gets closer to the top...

Working up...

Looking good...

Distressing the side pieces...

Last full shingle row in place!

The back of the 4Runner is a good place for the shear - we cut the top row to the right size...

Installing top row...

Last shingle...

Jim sat on the ridge to cut the drip edge and make it so that it will mate with the other side...

Using his crimper...

Starting to cut off the excess underlayment from the top...

Once he did the same on the back side, it was time to start taking down the roof jacks!

Taking off the jacks....

Last one...

Roofing is all done on this side and looks fabulous!
