4.30.2025

We needed to start some after winter clean up today.  Jim has been wanting to fill up this corner with some top soil after it had settled over the years...

Looks good!  We threw some grass seed here, as well as on some other places in the yard.

We didn't have much to clean up, but we scraped off any gravel that was thrown into the yard by the snow blower...

This is the first time we've used weed killer anywhere on the property, but just a little in the rocks here and in front of the pole barn hoping to keep the weeds away.

Jim did some preliminary work on figuring out how to attach the garage door in the shed.  He made more soffit blocks at the end of the day...

4.29.2025

After doing his computer work in the morning, Jim headed outside to attach the soffit blocks...

All the blocks are attached on this side!  Jim has 10 more to make and then he'll be able to attach them to the other side of the shed.

After lunch, time to finish up the roof underlayment (and sleeveless shirts made their first appearance of the year!)...

Putting last piece up...

Using the magical Zip Tape to cover the seams over the ridge so they won't leak until we get the roof on...

After working on his button gun, he wanted to see how it worked - and it did great!  He used it on the edges - it helps to keep the underlayment from lifting up in winds...

Doing some rearrangement of scaffolding platforms...

Then putting the button staples on this side of the roof...

Using the leaf blower to clean all the tree debris from the inside of the shed...

Now we're able to put some tools inside rather than haul them back and forth, so in goes the generator...

We did some clean up around the site and took down wood cut off pieces to the trash.  Then Jim loaded up our old concrete driveway forms - he's going to store these in the attic-type space in the shed for future use.

He brought out all the shed garage door parts and took them up to the shed.  That will be an upcoming project!

Jim did some grass cutting to end out the day.

4.28.2025

A beautiful day today - Jim got another section of scaffolding set up on top so that he could reach the roof better.

Next step is to put the underlayment on the roof.  First he had to move the first toe board and then did a little sweeping...

Starting to roll out the underlayment...

First row done and putting the toe board back up...

Marking placement and stud location - that way he can hit the rafter when he puts up the toe boards...

Stapling the next row in place...

Done and putting the toe board back up...

We had to go down to the shop and bring up another roll of underlayment...

Doing his measurements and marking...

First row in place and toe board back up...

Starting on the next row...

Done and toe board back up...

To make it easier, Jim cut a piece for the ridge and the tops of each side...

But before putting it up, he had to cut off the excess sheathing from both sides...

Putting the first top piece on...

He had to crawl over the top to attach it on the other side...

Folding it over on the peak...

He cut a couple more pieces and started attaching...

Putting up the next piece...

About halfway done with the ridge!  It was a good point to stop and clean up.

We even stuck some things inside the shed for the night!

The grass is growing - at the end of the day, Jim just a little mowing - first of the season!

4.27.2025

It was an on/off rainy weekend, so between the weather, visits to Mom, and church, definitely no outside work.  But Jim did lots of prep work for when we can get out.  Cutting the spacer blocks that he will use for soffit work on the shed...

Today, he tried to work on his button stapler.  He's never been happy with this gun and is trying to make it work so that we can use it to attach the roof underlayment...

The shed will have an overhang on the front, just to provide a little protection for the bottom of the garage door from the elements.  Jim is going to make it out of cold-formed steel so he drew up the design and all the dimensions of the pieces he'll need...

Using the new-to-Jim saw to cut the pieces...

4.25.2025

Jim got busy on the shed - putting the rest of the nails in the sheathing he put up yesterday...

Cutting the excess off the back...

Then we went down and got more sheathing...

Jim also brought down some wood to use as toe boards...

We marked the last full piece of sheathing and then Jim brought it up to the scaffolding...

Standing it up...

Up in place...

Starting to fasten...

Cutting the two side pieces...

First one up...

Moving the other piece into place...

Fastening...

We went down and got the last two pieces of sheathing.  Jim measured for cutting the top pieces on both sides...

Cutting...

Another toe board up so he can work higher...

Putting the first of the top row into place...

Fastening...

Cutting the last piece of sheathing...

Bringing it up...

Cutting off the ends...

The sheathing is all done on this side!

Cutting the last piece for the other side...

He first had to move more scaffolding platforms back over to this side...

Bringing the first piece up...

Maneuvering it up...

Putting it into place...

Bringing the other one up...

We weren't sure about weather and time but all the roof sheathing is up and Jim is very happy!

Our little shed in the woods looks wonderful!
