Jim worked in the shop this morning - he glued up pieces for the smaller panels...
The first T joint on the door came out great...
Next he started cutting the mortise joint into the side rails. It took him about 30 minutes to set up the drill press for this cut but once he did, it worked great.
Here's one of the mortise cuts...
You can see the tenon is rounded over to match...
Then the two will fit together to make a very strong joint...

Mid-afternoon, we decided to head back outside to do some more tree work. This is the last of the grouping of 3 trees in the front...
Cutting off a few branches...

These two trees are the ones we had topped last year - Jim's investigating how best to fell them...
Both of these have kind of twisty trunks which make it more difficult, so Jim decided to leave a tall stump on this one to try and avoid the worst twist...
Cutting down the stump...
Time for the next one. Jim knew this one was going to be an issue because it had a lot of branches on top plus it was a bit twisty. So again, he cut it higher...
However, Jim's thoughts were correct - it twisted a bit as it was coming down and the tree branches got caught in the other trees.
He got out his trusty spud bar...
And was able to get the trunk off of the stump, but it was still wedged tight.
Jim cut down the stump to get it out of the way...
Then got out his trusty rope - tied one end around the tree...
And the other end to the Bobcat...
And pulled...
Down...
He had to pull so hard that the knot he made was about impossible to undo...
He finally got it off the tree but still had to work at it to get the knot out...
Time to go to Easter services in the living room - Happy Easter everyone!
