7.17.2015

Today was more prep for the trusses.  Jim continued working on attaching the nailers - by the end of the day he had four all completely screwed down.  The other five are fastened down but need to have the remainder of the screws put in.  There are about 70 screws for each truss so that's a lot of hard work getting these screws in!

We worked up on the deck for awhile - Jim cut these little pieces of track to attach to each of the double trusses to allow him to have something to screw the braces to when the trusses are put into place.  The braces are needed to provide stabilization for the structure until the decking is put on the next floor.

Screwing down the pieces of track...

Then he spray painted each of the mounting pieces with a little dab of orange - since Jim is having our landlord help him, he wants things to be as clear and easy as possible when it comes time to put everything in place.

We moved a lot of the steel pieces and garage door track that were on the deck to make for an open clear area.  Then we set up another section of scaffolding so they will both have one to work from.

Before lunch, I went and picked up the extra gusset plates that Jim had ordered.  These will be for the cross bracing that he will do.  Here he is attaching one of the plates.  We'll work on the bracing this weekend as time and weather allow.

Jim also got a call from the concrete contractor that our insurance agent recommended.  They had a good conversation and he is going to stop out early next week to talk about the job.  That's good - hopefully all that will work out.

The Lowe's rep couldn't make it out to the property today but she did tell Jim that she thought she would be able to get a replacement pallet of plywood for us - good...no orange mold allowed!

We also got the quote back today for our metal roofing.  We definitely had sticker shock - the quote came in for about 6 times what we could get asphalt shingles for - and that's just for materials!  Jim hasn't gone through the quote yet but it will certainly make us investigate lots of other options.
