7.12.2015

The first step was this morning was to compact the ground floor area that we had cleared out.  Unfortunately, the compactor didn't cooperate and took some coaxing to make it start and run.

But once Jim got it started, it was fine.  Kyle did the honors of compacting the area.

Amazing how flat and solid it is now!

Then our next big goal was to move our pile of windows down under cover.  We were anxious to see what kind of shape they were in after sitting out.  Taking the tarps off...

Loading onto the forks of the Bobcat.

The load wasn't real stable so Kyle rode on the pallet holding on!

Bringing the windows (and Kyle) into the building.

This pallet was great - all the windows looked perfect.  We kept them on the pallet so we can easily move them out when it's time to work on the floor.

Time for the next pallet.  Unfortunately, this pallet seemed to get a little weather.  You can see that the first box is a little smashed so we were concerned about that.

Bringing the next pallet in.  It's amazing - after compacting the gravel, the Bobcat doesn't even leave a mark!

A little rodent friend (or foe) had decided to make a nest in our cool porthole window.  Thankfully, no damage.  The box we were worried about contained individually wrapped screens - the box just got dented at the top where it was empty.  So all was good and we were relieved!

Next was time to plan out the concrete pad for the car lift.  This needs to be 12" thick.  Jim hasn't put any extra gravel in this area so it didn't need to be dug out as much as it sounds.

Taking measurement see exactly how deep they need to go.

Doing the digging - unfortunately, this is a hand job because there's no way the excavator is getting inside the building!

By the time we left, they had it in pretty good shape and the form started.

We made it an earlier quitting time because we went to church in the evening and then went out to eat with Kyle and Julia.  It was a lot of fun to have them here with us and a very productive weekend.  Thanks, guys!
