7.11.2022

Always something to fix with a house - the urinal flush valve wouldn't turn off so Jim took it apart.  He couldn't see anything obviously wrong so he put it back together and it's working correctly now.  He'll keep an eye on it.

Jim got the electric conduit caulked into place - we'll paint it later...

The tube bender that he ordered came in so he'll be working on cleaning up lines a bit more to his liking soon - still some more tools and parts on the way.

Straightening out lines...

Taping them together...

7.10.2022

Jim had to drill through the side of the house again for the electric wiring for the compressor...

He got the drill all the way through...

Going through the masonry siding really chews up the drill bits, so Jim has to continually come in and sharpen them...

Making all the little holes around the spot to be able to break through the siding...

Putting the conduit through...

Good progress - next step will be to wire up the breaker box.

Then Jim switched to working on the pole barn, first modifying more brackets and attaching them to the ends of the ceiling joists...

Cutting the angles...

Putting the joists into place....

Once they were done, Jim had to start prepping to break into the back wall so that he can tie into the existing posts.  He had to trim a little off the edge of the siding...

Then started unscrewing all the fasteners on this first piece...

Siding removed...

Jim started cutting some of the existing structure to allow access to the posts.  At the end of the day, he tacked the siding back into place to keep the animals out.

Speaking of animals - another baby turkey sighting!  As Jim was coming up the stairwell, they were right outside.  By the time I got there, they were running down the back of the carriage house.  There were still probably 20 or so - they're so cute!

We saw a line up of baby turkeys in the evening!

7.9.2022

Jim had to break into the drywall to try and get the electric wire into the breaker box...

The wire is fed through and into the cavity for the breaker box...

Outside, Jim straightened the roof joists and fastened the hurricane clips to the ends...

Marking a level line where the ceiling joists will attach...

Putting up a temporary ledger board...

Jim had to modify more brackets and then brought up the first joist to figure out the angles...

Cutting the angles...

Couple of joists in place.  Jim continued doing more hurricane clips as well.

It's a short day and Jim wanted to replace the water filter - the new one was just delivered.  So that meant turning off the water and taking off the housing again...

Replacing the filter...

Time for church!

7.8.2022

Jim had to change all the connections on the ends of the electric wire to match with the compressor...

Mom and I did a pick up from Home Depot this morning and picked up these brackets.  Jim had to do some modifications to them to make them work the way he wanted - the modified is in the foreground of this picture.

Putting up more rafters...

And even more...

Stopping point for the day...

Jim wanted to move the wood that was stacked in the auto bay - he needed to move and run the Mini to keep the battery healthy.  So we brought out the 2"x6' pieces and put them underneath the platform, even though there's no rain in the forecast.

We brought out the sheathing...

We moved the rest of the wood along the edges of the car lift so that we can still get all the vehicles back inside...

7.7.2022

Jim spent part of the morning doing some computer work as well as figuring out next steps for the electric wiring for the air conditioning - he did find wire in his stash in the pole barn attic that he will be able to use.

This picture is of Jim attaching the Z-channel that he bought at Home Depot a couple days ago - he put it up yesterday afternoon and took this picture.  In order to attach it, he had to take off the top layer of siding, fasten the Z-channel into place, and reattach the siding.  But now, there won't be any leaks.

This afternoon, it was back to working on rafters.  When he was at Home Depot, he also picked up a different kind of hangar - he liked it so he'll order more tonight and Mom and I will go pick them up in the morning.  He's attaching one of the hangars...

Doing a little trim work on the rafter...

Attaching the hurricane clip to the other side...

Hauling up more rafter pieces...

Putting them into place...

Doing some measurements...

Once he got all the rafters up that he has hangars for, he worked on doing the bracing...

Other side...

End of the day - starting to look like a roof structure!

Jim cut some grass at the end of the day.
