 Jim and I were able to go to church in person today for the first time in ages - it was so nice!  Afterwards, we went down and visited with Mom for a while.

There wasn't much time leftover in the day, but Jim cut and started sanding the drawer bottoms to the right thickness...

To save a little money, Jim has been buying rolls of sandpaper in different grits to make his own belts from the drum sander...

Happy birthday to my amazing husband!  I can't even begin to express how much I love you and how much I love sharing life with you (but hopefully you know!).  I celebrate you every day, but especially today!

Mother Nature joined in the celebration today as well, as we experienced a house-rattling earthquake tremor this morning.  We are used to the sounds and feelings of snow falling from the roof, but we knew right away that this was different.  It ended up being a 4.8 magnitude earthquake, with the epicenter north of New Lebanon, NJ.  

Jim continued working on cabinet drawer pieces - pocket screw holes drilled...

This is the top panel for the cabinet, with front piece added on...

He put the cut in the bottom of the side pieces so that the bottom panel will fit in...

Of course we had to celebrate Jim's birthday with cake and ice cream!

The forecast definitely came true and we had well over a foot of snow between last night and today.  A gorgeous look out the window...

It was a wet, heavy snow and just coated the trees - this was the view in the back of the house.  Unfortunately, the show was so heavy that it broke the top off our little oak tree that we transplanted and have been nurturing alone.  But with all that snow, it was no surprise that we lost utility power from about 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  Yet another time we are so grateful for the generator!

Jim went out in the afternoon to clear the driveway...

He did lots of sanding in the shop today - here he's working on the side panels...

 It was a rainy day, so a good day to stay inside.  We are still under a Winter Storm Warning (in Spring!) with a forecast of 8-12" of snow coming.

Jim continued to work on drawer parts and pieces - doing some planing...

Jim resawed some of this thicker maple stock on the bandsaw...

Then glued the pieces together to create more drawer stock.  This way he has almost zero waste.

Both side pieces done, along with bottom panel...

Later in the afternoon, we headed into town.  Jim picked up plywood at Lowe's and then we picked up groceries at two different stores.  Got all that done and I didn't even have to get out of the car!

While this picture looks like we should be celebrating spring, our forecast is more like an April Fool's Day Joke - we have 8-12" of snow forecast from Tuesday night into Friday morning!
