5.1.2026

Always a celebration day, although it's hard to believe it's May already!  We're having some cooler weather, which is perfect for us.

Yesterday Jim was able to cut the Formica on the table saw...

Then started applying contact cement to the shelf and Formica...

Heavy boxes on top to make sure it dries flat...

We knocked off early in the afternoon and did some errands.  We stopped at the granite place to ask if they could bring the granite countertop up into the house.  We just don't want to risk Jim's recovery by trying to maneuver such a heavy piece.  They said they would be happy to and will schedule it for next week.  So that's good news.  We also took the battery out of the 4Runner - it just doesn't hold a charge and we just bought it in October.  They exchanged it, so we were two for two.  We celebrated by going to The Local.  Check out this burger!

After gluing the Formica onto the island bottom shelf yesterday, today he started using the router to trim the edges...

Working on making the attachment holes and countersinking them through the top so that the screws will lie flat...

He brought up the shelf and put it on the island; it will be nice to have it until the countertop can be brought up...

Jim has spent more time analyzing the freezer issue; we've decided to replace the control board.  We'll monitor it closely after that and go from there.
