7.6.2022

Jim was back outside today, working on figuring out how to get all those really stiff plumbing lines to form inside the channel - definitely not an easy task!  First step was to attach the channel to the wall - he'll have to take this down later and caulk each of the screw holes just to prevent leaking.

It took a lot of work - especially at the top - to get these lines to conform...

But - wow! - looks great!

Mom and I had to head to the dentist this afternoon to get her permanent crown and then do a little shopping, including getting some paint matched to the pole barn for the lean-to siding.  While we were gone, he got all but the two end rafters cut...

And the first rafter up!

7.5.2022

It was a light rain day so it was a good day for inside work - and there's lots of that always!  Jim worked on trying to neaten up and organize the air conditioning plumbing lines...

Looks really good!  He spent time studying and figuring out the electric lines, which is the next step.

Later in the afternoon, he changed the whole house water filter - it had been a year.  It's always a bit of a mess because even though Jim can isolate this section, the filter is full of water.

Not bad after a year!

Cleaning out the housing...

Jim had ordered a box of these smaller, more fine filters.  They were supposed to fit but they were so small that they wouldn't stay in place to be sure it fit once it was assembled.  So they are going back!

Jim reassembled the filter and will order different ones.

After cleaning up with that job, he headed to Lowe's and Home Depot - he needs some Z-channel to go at the top of the siding.

7.4.2022

Hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th of July!

Now that the compressor is on the pad, Jim brought the lines over and just finger tightened them into place so he could make sure he had the right length...

Then he started working on neatening the lines up - he's got to figure out how this will all work inside the channel he bought.  This is slow going because these lines don't bend!

We brought out the last piece of siding and Jim did some measuring...

Starting to cut the siding into the four pieces we need...

Putting the first into place...

Cutting the end angle...

Putting it up...

Last piece in place - we're all closed in again!

He cut the first roof rafter prototype...

Trying it out for size...

Now it's just the rafter assembly line - there are multiple angles on each one so it's a process...

Cutting the bird's mouth...

Cleaning it up with a hand saw...

Five down, seven to go!

7.3.2022

It was a nice day - Kyle and his girlfriend, Hope, came up for a visit.  We started the day with pancakes and lots of conversation!

Jim and Kyle did work on the compressor - they put the rails on the bottom...

Rails are fastened...

Putting the compressor in the bucket...

Hope and Kyle rode along to hold onto the compressor...

Lifting the air compressor from the bucket onto the pad...

This looked really heavy - glad Kyle was able to help Jim out!

Looks really good on its pad!

We had dinner early afternoon and then all went for a walk afterwards.  A couple pictures...

Hope took a family shot...

It was so nice to meet Hope and we all had a great day - the weather was beautiful as well!

7.2.2022

Jim's been working on the computer to get the lean to rafter design and all those angles figured out.  Today, he brought out his saw to keep close to the project so he can work more efficiently.  He brought out his wood and started doing some cutting.

At the end of the day, Jim did some grass cutting before church time.

Excuse the lack of pictures - Mom and I ran into Saratoga to do some errands and then were busy in the house during the short afternoon!

7.1.2022

Back out to the pole barn this morning - bringing over the next piece of siding...

Before the last piece goes up, more modifications to the existing pole barn need to be made...

Doing some trimming...

Sizing the last piece...

All up and fastening...

Jim cut the next header piece to size and put it on top of the scaffolding...

I helped him get it up into place (he made and attached temporary ledger boards first that it could rest on) - then he fastened it into place...

Then he turned his attention to removing the forms from the concrete pad for the compressor...

Front's off and looks good!

Removing the sides and back was a little more tricky but Jim did it - oiling the forms sure helps...

It looks fabulous!

Taking apart all the forms and doing clean up after the day's work...
